The Foundation is concerned that the BELA Bill was passed by Parliament as the Bill will infringe upon the right to education in an official language of your choice.
In light of recent discussions surrounding the Basic Education Laws Amendment Bill (“BELA Bill”), the FW de Klerk Foundation takes note of recent reports concerning corruption within some School Governing Bodies (“SGBs”).
On 26 October 2023, the National Assembly passed the controversial Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Bill, which it believes will improve the quality of basic education received by the majority of South African learners by creating a more just and equitable education system.
