DRAFT NATIONAL CORRUPTION RISK AND PREVENTION FRAMEWORK OPENS FOR COMMENT – CLOSES NEXT WEEK
Issued by Daniela Ellerbeck on behalf of the FW de Klerk Foundation on 17/10/2025
Today, the Special Investigating Unit (“SIU”) opened the Draft National Corruption Risk and Prevention Framework for public comment. The comment period is extremely short – closing next Friday, 24 October 2025.
“The Framework’s stated purpose is to address corruption risk and to provide guidance on how to manage corruption risks. It applies broadly across the public and private sectors, as well as society at large — including members of the public, media, civil society organisations, community-based and faith-based organisations, advocacy groups, youth groups and non-profit organisations,” explains Daniela Ellerbeck, an attorney and the Foundation’s Constitutional Rights Programmes Manager.
“South Africa is fighting for its survival against corruption. This Framework is critical, but meaningful public participation requires more than a week,” states Christo van der Rheede, the Foundation’s Executive Director.
The FW de Klerk Foundation has formally approached the SIU to stress that the State must facilitate effective public participation. The Foundation urges the public to review the Framework and submit comments.
