Daniela Ellerbeck, the FW de Klerk Foundation’s Constitutional Rights Programme Manager, outlines the FW de Klerk Foundation’s written submission to the Electoral Reform Consultation Panel. The submission was in response to the Panel’s invitation for comments on why, how and whether South Africa’s present electoral system should be reformed, changed, or even replaced.
2023 was a productive year for the FW de Klerk Foundation.
We continued to advocate for the causes for which FW de Klerk worked and honoured him through a number of cornerstone events.
At the the FW de Klerk Foundation’s Annual Conference, held in collaboration with Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Elita de Klerk, the Foundation’s Chairperson, presented the Goodwill Award to the Free Market Foundation’s Khaya Lam Project.

The FW de Klerk Foundation’s Annual Conference, in collaboration with Konrad Adenauer Foundation, took place at the Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town on 2 February 2024. Held in commemoration of the 34th anniversary of the speech by FW de Klerk that initiated South Africa’s constitutional transformation process, the theme of this year’s event was “South Africa at 30: Looking Back, Looking Around and Looking Forward”.
