The FW de Klerk Foundation supports the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in its campaign to mobilise South Africans to register for the 2024 National and Provincial Elections this weekend, 18 and 19 November.
In September 2023, South Africa witnessed a watershed moment as the National State Enterprises Bill made its debut in the National Assembly. This milestone bore the promise of revitalising not only the country’s governance arena but, more importantly, its beleaguered state-owned enterprises (SOEs). However, this Bill’s initial allure as a harbinger of reform is, but a mirage.
On 26 October 2023, the National Assembly passed the controversial Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Bill, which it believes will improve the quality of basic education received by the majority of South African learners by creating a more just and equitable education system.
The Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) recently introduced a transformation policy aimed at addressing historical inequalities within South Africa and the financial sector. While the GEPF’s intentions are undoubtedly noble, it is crucial to scrutinise the policy for potential legal conflicts and practicality.
On 12 October, the FW de Klerk Foundation made a submission on the National Prosecuting Authority Amendment Bill to Parliament and the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services.
Section 3 of the Constitution – ranking just after the rule of law and Constitutional supremacy – recognises the right of all citizens to citizenship. Its placement indicates its importance not only for equal entitlement to rights, privileges and benefits of citizenship, but also for the realisation of a “united and democratic South Africa.”
The recent 10 Year Review of the National Development Plan (NDP) deserves more than passing attention as it points to where South Africa has gone so terribly wrong and what we should have done to achieve a better life for all our people.
On Friday 29 September, the FW de Klerk Foundation submitted its views on the Independent Police Investigative Directorate Amendment Bill to Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Police.
