On Friday, 28 July 2017,  the Centre for Constitutional Rights (CFCR) hosted a panel discussion on the interpretation of section 9(2) of the Constitution, as laid down in the matter of the Minister of Finance and others v Van Heerden (Van Heerden) and the future of Employment Equity Plans. The topic open for discussion was “The Nature of the Equality Clause and Fair Discrimination in the Constitution – the future of Employment Equity”. Speakers included Ms Tabea Kabinde (Chairperson of the Commission for Employment Equity), Mr Steven Friedman (Political analyst, University of Johannesburg), and Adv Martin Brassey, SC (Senior Advocate of the Johannesburg Bar Council).
