SUBMISSION URGENT REQUEST FOR CONFIRMATION OF PARLIAMENT'S TIMELINES, ROADMAP AND INSTITUTIONAL PRIORITIES FOR ERCP REPORT - FOLLOW-UP
Dear Honourable Chairperson Chabane
- I trust this email finds you well.
- I write on behalf of the FW de Klerk Foundation regarding our correspondence dated 14 August 2026. (Attached hereto for your convenience.)
- The Foundation appreciates your Committee Secretary, Mr Eddy Mathonsi’s, response dated that same day (14 August 2026).
- In his response, Mr Mathonsi confirmed that the Joint Management Committees of the Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs, the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, and the Select Committee on Security and Justice were to meet on 17 August 2026 to discuss the processing of the ERCP report and determine a way forward.
- Given that the Join Management Committees have now met, as well as the importance of the issues raised in our correspondence, the Foundation would be grateful for the Chairperson’s substantive response to the questions set out in paragraph 14 of our correspondence of 14 August 2026.
- The Constitution requires transparency, accountability, and responsiveness (section 1). Furthermore, the ERCP report concerns a matter of great public importance and touches the foundations of South Africa’s democracy. Parliament must, therefore, provide clear information about its process for considering said report throughout the process.
- We look forward to your response as a matter of urgency.
Sincerely,
Daniela Ellerbeck
