The Summit is an annual event held to share the experiences of Nobel Peace Laureates with the world, and particularly the next generation of young leaders. The Summit will be held in Cape Town from 13 to 15 October 2014. This year – the first anniversary of Mandela Day without Madiba – the Summit will be dedicated to the memory of Nelson Mandela and focus attention on the progress made by South Africa during our first 20 years of constitutional democracy.
Staff of the FW de Klerk Foundation will be participating in various activities in service to their fellow South Africans on Mandela Day 2014. The Foundation’s Executive Director, Dave Steward, will be attending a meeting of the Ad Hoc Committee on Property Rights to ensure that land reform in South Africa takes place within the framework of the Constitution. Other staff members of the Foundation and its Centre for Constitutional Rights will be donating their 67 minutes to the Woodside Special Care Centre. The Foundation has a longstanding relationship with Woodside, which cares for 90 profoundly intellectually and physically disabled children and young adults. By so doing it helps to serve a small percentage of the many marginalized people in Cape Town.
