MEET OUR INTERN: SONIA TWONGYEIRWE
Issued by the FW de Klerk Foundation on 04/02/2025
The FW de Klerk Foundation is pleased to have Sonia Twongyeirwe, a Stellenbosch University student, on board as an online intern.
We recently sat down with her to learn more about her background and goals for the internship…
FWDKF: Why did you want to intern with the FW de Klerk Foundation?
ST: I wanted to intern at the FW de Klerk Foundation to gain experience in parliamentary monitoring, legal research and close-up observation of the unfolding of political events. This internship will allow me to practice writing and political engagement, which are invaluable in both civic and professional spaces.
FWDKF: What do you hope to achieve/learn during the internship?
ST: I hope to bridge the connection between the theoretical and practical understanding of the Constitution. Through this knowledge, I hope to become more skilled at identifying and addressing gaps in the Constitution.
FWDKF: What is your background, country of origin and research focus?
ST: I am an Ugandan studying BA Honours in International Studies at Stellenbosch University. My research is focused on youth-led political movements, the role of political institutions and supranational democracy.
FWDKF: What are your career ambitions?
ST: My career ambition is to promote civic education amongst African citizens; to bring information about the trends in African politics to the people whose votes decide which leader rules. I also hope to study further and become better equipped in understanding political events as they unfold.
