The FW de Klerk Foundation proudly releases The Power of Financial Possibility: South Africa’s 2026 Constitutional Money Guide, a practical resource for young South Africans launched during Money Smart Week South Africa 2026. Available as a full 40-page report and a ten-page edition, it brings personal finance and constitutional citizenship into one conversation.
The guide begins with a simple proposition: financial freedom is room to choose, and the power to widen that room. It is organised around five movements. Learn turns information into judgement. Earn asks how work becomes reliable income. Keep focuses on fraud prevention, resilience and redress. Grow connects saving to ownership. Shape follows taxes, municipal budgets and public services because public money determines what private income can achieve.
The need is urgent. In the second quarter of 2026, Statistics South Africa recorded youth unemployment of 47.4% among people aged 15 to 34. The report therefore refuses two easy stories: that discipline alone can overcome every structural barrier, or that individuals are powerless until the economy changes. Instead, it sets out shared work for citizens, financial institutions and government.
“Money Smart Week should leave people with more than slogans,” said Ismail Joosub, Manager of Constitutional Advancement at the Foundation. “A young person should be able to understand the true cost of credit, protect their financial identity, build an asset and ask where public money goes. That is financial capability made practical.”
Conceptualised by Executive Director Christo van der Rheede and written by Joosub and Alia Khan Koumantarakis, the guide includes practical worksheets, a 30-day possibility sprint and links to official sources.
The Foundation invites young people, households, educators, financial institutions and public bodies to read, use and share both editions. Possibility becomes credible when knowledge can be used, income can be earned, harm can be remedied, assets can be built and institutions can be held accountable. Begin with the next decision, then widen the doorway for someone else.
