The FW de Klerk Foundation - in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation -hosted our Annual Conference in Cape Town on 1 February. Our theme for 2019 was: “Addressing Inequality”.

Various speakers first highlighted the centrality of property rights in successful economies and democracies, whereafter the three areas in which property rights should and could be expanded, were explored. These are property rights in urban areas, agricultural land and communal land.

Every year, the FW de Klerk Foundation hosts a conference on 2 February in Cape Town, to coincide with the announcement in Parliament in 1990 of the release of Nelson Mandela and others, and the unbanning of several organisations. These conferences, hosted in partnership with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung South Africa, tackle a topical theme, with input from a diverse range of influential speakers. Previous speakers include former President Kgalema Motlanthe, Justice Albie Sachs, Dr Mathews Phosa, Ms Rhoda Kadalie, Prof Frans Viljoen, Mr Sipho Pityana, Adv Jeremy Gauntlett and former President FW de Klerk. The theme for 2018 was "South Africa Beyond State Capture and Corruption", with speeches from former President FW de Klerk, Prof Haroon Bhorat, Prof Thuli Madonsela and Dr Frans Cronje.






The FW de Klerk Foundation hosted its annual conference on 2 February in Cape Town at the Table Bay Hotel. Speakers for 2017 included former President FW de Klerk, Mr Moeletsi Mbeki, Justice Zak Yacoob, Dr Christo Wiese and Ms Ferial Haffaje. The theme was "The Constitution and Governance - at another Crossroads"

The FW de Klerk Foundation, in conjunction with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) hosted a conference to launch the FW de Klerk Foundation's Centre for Unity in Diversity on Friday, 26 August 2016, in Johannesburg. The new Centre's aims will include building constructive and constitutionally-based national unity; promoting the constitutional rights of South Africa's communities to preserve and develop their cultural, religious and linguistic identities within the framework of national unity; and promoting harmonious non-racial relations between all who live in South Africa.   

The theme of the conference was “Unity in Diversity: A Roadmap towards understanding Reconciliation” and speakers included Former President FW de Klerk, Adv George Bizos, SC, Ms Rhoda Kadalie.

Each year the Foundation hosts a conference to commemorate FW de Klerk's historic speech to Parliament on 2 February 1990. 

Theme: The Future of Multiculturalism in South Africa

Speakers included Dr Mathews Phosa, Rhoda Kadalie, Flip Buys, Dr Fernand de Varennes and former President FW de Klerk.

The FW de Klerk Foundation - in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation - hosted a half-day conference at the Protea Hotel President in Bantry Bay, Cape Town, on Tuesday, 3 February 2015.

Speakers included former President FW de Klerk, former President Kgalema Motlanthe, Lord Robin Renwick of Clifton KCMG and Dr Johann Rupert.

The FW de Klerk Foundation - in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation - hosted a full-day conference at the Johannesburg Country Club in Napier Road, Auckland Park on Wednesday, 27 August 2014.

Speakers included FW de Klerk; Dr Anthea Jeffery (IRR); Adv Martin Brassey; Dr Theo de Jager (AgriSA); and Dawie Roodt (Efficient Group).

Minister of Home Affiars, Naledi Pandor, visited former president FW de Klerk at his offices on Wednesday, 24 July 2013, to hand over his new Smart ID card. The official launch took place on 18 July in Johannesburg.

On Monday 22 July 2013, staff members and interns of the FW de Klerk Foundation spent the morning at AbbAsorg Cloetesville, doing 67 minutes of community service for Mandela Day 2013.

On Saturday, 2 February 2013, the FW de Klerk Foundation hosted their annual Gala Dinner, in commemoration of the 23rd anniversary of FW de Klerk's historic speech, which opened the way to South Africa's constitutional transformation.

Uniting-Behind-the-Constitution-ConferenceThe FW de Klerk Foundation hosted its annual conference on Saturday, 2 February 2012, in conjunction with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. The 2013 theme was "Uniting Behind the Constitition". The full-day conference featured a number of prominent speakers, including Mr Sipho Pityana, chairman of CASAC, and advocate Jeremy Gauntlett.
