Die veldtog is onverstandig en sal beslis nie help om &#8216;n vreedsame oplossing vir die Israeliese\/Palestynse probleem te vind nie.<\/p>\n<p>Suid-Afrika se verhouding met Israel is van groot belang vir die strewe na &#8216;n vreedsame en onderhandelde oplossing. 25 jaar gelede het ons Suid-Afrikaners gewys dat &#8216;n probleem wat net so ingewikkeld is as wat die een is wat Israel en Palestina nou die hoof moet bied, vreedsaam opgelos kan word deur kompromie en onderhandeling. Ons verteenwoordig steeds &#8216;n model wat kan help om ander te inspireer om dit wat hulle as eksistensi\u00eble uitdagings beskou, aan te pak.<\/p>\n<p>Ten spyte van die vele probleme wat ons steeds die hoof moet bied, het Suid-Afrika groot voordeel getrek wat vrede betref. Ons is beslis in &#8216;n baie beter posisie as wat ons sou wees indien ons nie &#8216;n vreedsame ooreenkoms bereik het wat die kommer van al die partye tot ons konflik aangespreek het nie.<\/p>\n<p>Ons moet alles doen wat ons kan om ons ervaring met verdeelde samelewings te deel &#8211; en veral met Israel en Palestina. Elke konfliksituasie is natuurlik anders, maar daar is sommige gemeenskaplike faktore in die meeste sodanige probleme:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>belangrike belange kan nie verwesenlik en beskerm word deur die gebruik van geweld nie;<\/li>\n<li>die redelike belange en veiligheid van alle partye moet verseker word;<\/li>\n<li>alle partye wat die uitkoms van onderhandelings kan raak moet by die vredesproses ingesluit word; en<\/li>\n<li>daar kan geen vrede op die lang termyn wees sonder geregtigheid vir almal nie.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In plaas daarvan om Israel te probeer isoleer, behoort Suid-Afrika alles in sy mag te doen om met al die betrokke partye te skakel. Suid-Afrika moet ook sy pogings verdubbel om die sukses van ons eie vredesproses op die lang termyn te verseker deur die ooreenkomste wat in ons Grondwet vervat word, te eerbiedig.
