geskiktheid van oudpresident Jacob Zuma <a href=\"https:\/\/www.concourt.org.za\/index.php\/judgement\/555-electoral-commission-of-south-africa-v-umkhonto-wesizwe-political-party-and-others-cct97-24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">beslis<\/a> om vir die Parlement te staan. Die hof het die Onafhanklike Verkiesingskommissie (\u201cOVK\u201d) se <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeslive.co.za\/politics\/2024-05-10-iec-has-no-powers-to-disqualify-zuma-as-election-candidate-mpofu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">diskwalifikasie<\/a> van Zuma bevestig en sodoende die toepassing van <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov.za\/legislation\/constitution\/saconstitution-web-eng.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">artikel 47(1)(e)<\/a> van die Grondwet bevestig. Artikel 47(1)(e) verbied enigiemand wat tot meer as 12 maande gevangenisstraf sonder die keuse van \u0149 boete gevonnis is om as lid van die Parlement te dien. Dit geld vir tot vyf jaar nadat die vonnis voltooi is.<\/p><p>Ismail Joosub, Regsbeampte van Grondwetlike Programme by die FW de Klerk Stigting, het opgemerk: \u201c<em>Hierdie besluit handhaaf die Grondwet en sy uitdruklike geskiktheidsvereistes vir diegene wat die amp van \u2018n lid van die Parlement wil beklee. Dit herbevestig die grondwetlike mandaat om te verseker dat slegs individue wat aan streng etiese standaarde en wetlike vereistes voldoen, vir openbare amp te kan staan.
