In 1995 is sy deur President Mandela aangestel as &#8216;n Kommissaris van Menseregte verantwoordelik vir die Wes- en Noord-Kaap, en het vir drie jaar in die amp gedien. As Kommissaris van Menseregte het sy ondersoeke ingestel na skendings betreffende menseregte in gevangenisse in die Wes- en Noord-Kaap, die armoedige omstandighede van plaaswerkers in die Noord-Kaap, en plekke van veiligheid vir kinders in Kaapstad. Baie van haar ondersoeke het wye dekking in die media geniet en het die aandag gevestig op oortredings deur die regering wat in die staatsektor voorkom.<\/p>\n<p>Van 1976 tot 1995 was sy akademikus wat sosiale antropologie en vrouestudies aangebied het en die Eenheid vir Geslagsgelykheid aan die Universiteit van die Wes-Kaap (UWK) gestig het. Kadalie het dikwels toesprake en referate gelewer oor menseregte en politiek betreffende geslag in Suid-Afrika. In 1999 het sy &#8216;n Eredoktorsgraad in die Liberale Kunste aan die Universiteit van Uppsala, Swede ontvang. In 2008 ontvang sy &#8216;n Eredoktorsgraad van haar alma mater, die Universiteit van die Wes-Kaap, en in 2010 het die Universiteit van Stellenbosch &#8216;n Doktorsgraad van Filosofie <em>Honoris Causa<\/em> aan haar toegeken. Kadalie het vir ongeveer nege jaar op die UWK se raad gedien, en vir twee jaar op die US se raad.<\/p>\n<p>Kadalie het in verskeie tydskrifte, koerantartikels en boeke verskyn en het baie artikels en hoofstukke in boeke oor politiek betreffende geslag, liberalisme, buitelandse beleid, regte betreffende reproduktiwiteit en &#8216;n paar biografiese opstelle geskryf. Haar boek, <em>In Your Face: Passionate Conversations about People and Politics<\/em>, is in 2009 deur Tafelberg gepubliseer. Haar tweede e-boek,\u00a0<em>The Politics of Pregnancy<\/em>, wat in samewerking met haar dogter Julia Bertelsmann deur Tafelberg gepubliseer is, is deel van &#8216;n reeks genaamd\u00a0<em>Kort en Kragtig, To the Point<\/em>, 2012. Kadalie was vir baie jare lank &#8216;n gasrubriekskrywer vir <em>Business Day<\/em>, <em>Die Burger<\/em> en al sy susterstitels.
